The Research Course Concept

This course aims to give young clinical and basic gastroenterology or hepatology investigators the skills for critically assessing published research articles. The programme provides a valuable platform for personal and scientific exchange between European investigators aged 35 and under.
It also helps develop basic statistical knowledge and reasoning abilities, and offers insight into all the steps required to produce a strong study:

  • Lectures
  • Discussions
  • Interactive training sessions
  • Participants' presentations

History

The first Research Course was organised at the UEG Week in Amsterdam 2001, with the intention to create a platform for personal and scientific exchange between young investigators from all European countries in the field of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and connected disciplines.

Successfully developed by ASNEMGE over the years, the Research Courses have become a well established high-quality educational programme built on a platform of evidence-based medicine and adult learning principles.

Upon the inclusion of National Societies as direct Members of the UEG, these Courses were added to the portfolio of educational courses organized by the UEG.
Presently two annual Research Courses are organised:

  • Weekend Workshop at the House of European Gastroenterology in Vienna, focusing on “How to set up and perform a study”.
  • One-day workshop at annual UEG Week, focusing on “How to write an abstract and present a study".
